Star Wars is a science fantasy saga and fictional galaxy created by writer / producer / director George Lucas during the 1970s. The saga began with the film Star Wars (later retitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope), which was released on May 25, 1977, by 20th Century Fox. The film became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon - spawning five more feature films, three spin-off films, five television series and an extensive collection of licensed books, comics, video games, action figures, trading cards, card games, and other products - all of which are set within a fictional "galaxy far, far away."

Have you had a chance to explore The Expanded Universe? These are books (novels and comics), games, etc. They are canon (offical) storylines, although the stuff Lucas says will over ride the EU. Han and Leia marry, and have 3 kids. Luke falls to the dark side, under the influence of a reborn Emperor Palptine! Wege becomes a General. Worth looking into, if you're a Star Wars fan!

The best places to start our your local library (which is how I read most the books), your local book store, amazon, and http://www.wikipedia.org (generally accurate, especially the names of books; watch out for spoilers, including Luke's future wife). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Star_Wars_books
A good place to start is Heir to the Empire. You'll meet many of the key players to EU, from hereos of the movies, to new characters, such as Talon Kardde and Mara Jade. Of course, you'll want to read The Courtship of Princess Leia.
FYI: you won't actually be able to find novels regarding Luke going to the Dark Side. This took place in the Dark Horse Comics, but the novel writers decided to incorporate it. If you want to read it, you'll need to look for Dark Empire (1 & 2), and Empire's End. The artwork isn't that good, and the story isn't as strong as the novels (imo), but since you'll probably want to know what happens to Luke and Palptine, then you'll want to check it out. For some reason, EE seems to be "rare," as that the average prcie for the tradeback was over $30. I was lucky to get it on Ebay for $10.
Last note, in the books, it seems people can have light sabers of any color they want. One of the new Jedi is being ambused by "dark jedi," and he comments "Great! We've got all the colors of the rainbow!"

Although Start wars wasn't the first movie that I got to see by myself, The Phantom Menace was the first movie that I saw on it's opening day. I love watching all the Star Wars movies. One of these days I want to watch all of them from the frist to the last.

I know what you mean, there was a comment before from the critics that it wont be a hit because who will like a futuristic movie with sword fights? now its one of the highlights of the saga... if you have seen the originals during its time it was phenomenal...
