It's cold and rainy and the perfect day to stay in bed. However, as the dwarfs used to sing, I owe, I owe, so off to work I go. First, though, it's time for another song that has "people" in the title. As yesterday's song dealt with the time of the 60s, today's song deals with the children of the 60s.
#6: We Are the People Our Parents Warned Us About - Jimmy Buffett
Okay, older folks: have you found yourself doing something, or saying something, then it hits you: you have become your parents. I find myself acting so much like my dear late mother of blessed memory anymore that I should change my name to hers!
"Kids today, I swear." Yeah, that's us. The funny thing is, as this song points out, we were the ones our parents said "kids today, I swear" about! Drawing on his own experiences ("I was supposed to have been a Jesuit priest or a Naval Academy grad"), Jimmy Buffett shows what happened to the children of the 60s in a lighthearted way (dismissing others' "jogging and heavy into health [stuff]" in favor of "cajun martinis and playing afternoon golf").
Yeah, that's what happens when you get older and realize what's happened. Shake it up, baby.

I looked him up when this song came out back in 1983 (which meant going to the library). He was an actor on a TV show in the late 50s.
