There are san Jose taiko drummers here in this picture of the 2019 San Jose Womens march in downtown san jose.Taiko is the Japanese word for drum, and taiko can mean the drum or the art form of kumidaiko,a type of ensemble drumming.Japantown is also a part of san Jose. The Taiko drummers typically perform at festivals like the Obon festival.Japantown is a place of historical importance in San Jose. Does anyone here live in a place where there is a local musical tradition?

If you love drums and drummers, you should come to Nigeria... Different drums from different states with different symbolisms and beats! We are hospitable people and would love to show you our culture!

It's been years since we've gone to San Jose - I know there is a big Japanese community out there. How neat that taiko drummers are part of the womens march out there! I'm in Los Angeles, there are lot of music events/festival here that I guess could be called "tradition". Locally we do have an Obon festival in the summer in which taiko drummers play (but they are stationery - while others dance obon odori around them).
