How’s Your Voice and Your Pitch?

My voice is loud . So, for those who have talked with me the first time will be surprised how loud my voice is, as I am told by my sisters ,close friends and officemates. And my sister said, it would usually becomes high pitch when I get excited or anxious. That is why, some mistook me for shouting. An engineer officemate complained to my boss that I shouted at him. He was told that it’s my normal voice , loud. From then on, he is used to my loud & high pitched voice and often joke " you aren't angry ha? " Some people gets offended by my loud and high pitched voice, still. So, in order to change that, I am trying now to speak in a modulated voice. It is hard for me, but I will strictly try, so it won’t get me into trouble with the sensitive people. But at home, my aged mother-in-law and her sister are a bit deaf already. That is why, we have to talk in a loud voice, lest they keep saying , what!? Hubby’s voice isn’t loud however, when he speaks most of the time he seems angry. What about you, are you a loud talker and your voice seems excited or angry when even you are not? Note: Image is from google

I have a soft calm voice, the clients of my husbands loved to hear my voice when I answered the phone. One used to joke saying "you have a sexy voice".

@hereandthere My voice is not very different on the phone and when I speak to people in person. My husband has a loud voice, but low pitch, so it's not disturbing. My niece has a higher pitch, I tell her all the time to control her voice.

@sofssu That's how we should be really with our children. We have to show them that we are angry when they have done something really wrong.

I have a loud voice but not shouting. It's a normal speaking voice but not soft I would say a voice with projection lol.

@SIMPLYD it's a result when you regularly do diaphragmatic exercises/ breathing techniques, these help in achieving clear, loud voice. High pitched voice are mostly coming from the throat not the diaphragm. Speech and voice teachers can help you with this.

My voice is very deep and actually thought you were talking about singing. Glad you were not because would not want to hear that. I usually mumble when I do not feel like talking but normal, I guess voice carries and my sister says it gives her headaches. Another reason I mumble, but then she never stops asking Huh. Never can win sometimes.

It means to say even when you mumble it still is a bit loud? As for me, one time my sister and I quarreled because she said I talk loudly. See, I talk loudly indeed.

They became deaf with your voice? most in my wife's family except my wife have loud voices that you will mistake for angry especially when they are drinking lol! My volume is normal but I tend to speak slow but clear.

Oh, no! They became deaf because of old age. Your wife's family should modulate their voices when they gather. Lest they can be mistaken as arguing. Most people with loud voices are misinterpreted as angry. Though my hubby has a modulated voice but when he speaks , he seems angry when he is not actually.

@SIMPLYD sometimes I think it also has something to do with the dialect and where they come from ( Bisaya, Mindanao), my mother's family is from Western Visayas and I observed people there speak a little bit softly than people here in Metro Manila

So you have a soft voice? Good for you., I do have a sore throat if I keep talking. Maybe it's because I talk loud and my vocal chords are stretched much when I still keep talking.

My voice is in between. I taught school for years, so know how to regulate it. My husband says I get loud if I have a martini.

I think that is understandable for teachers. Their voice should be loud enough so that those at the back can hear what she is discussing. So you get loud when you have a martini. Me, I am so happy and keep laughing at the slightest of jokes when I had more than enough drink of tequila and margarita. I love their taste so I keep ordering for another and another.

I am soft spoken. In fact, I believe when we talk softly, people tend to listen more as high pitched voice distracts people! Rarely I lose my temper and when I do, I raise my voice - siva

I talk in a moderate tone of voice. I really dislike it when people talk too loud or too soft. For instance, if others can hear what you are saying in a restaurant..a few tables away you are probably too loud, or if others strain to hear you you are probably speaking too quietly.

Good for you. I am trying my best to modulate my voice now. It's hard though because I am used to having a loud voice. I am thinking how I can lower my being high pitched. I guess it is what makes people think I am angry or bossy when I talk.

Oh yeah, I would never need a loud speaker or microphone for someone to hear me @SIMPLYD . I live way out in the country on 20 acres and when I had the animal shelter here and stood on my back porch to tell the dogs to 'shut up'; people said they could hear me 80 acres away.

@nanette64 So the pitch of the voice changes over the years. In your case, because of the smoking over the years.

@SIMPLYD The one thing that does upset me though about my voice is that when I was younger, I sang soprano; today, I sing bass. That's because of 46 years of smoking though.
