In our country the Philippines, senior citizens are given discounts in eateries, groceries, accommodations, transportation, etc as provided by law. These provisions includes citizen of the Philippines upon reaching the age of 60 years old are entitled for discounts, 5% discount for the total cost of basic necessities bought in groceries while 20% off are deducted for transportation cost, eateries and accommodations. These discounts are really is of great help to seniors who are mostly retirees and only dependent on their monthly pensions.
The high cost of living, almost all are rising with regards to prices, not to mention also those who are sick who need medications for their illness and it concerns money.
I'm just wondering if the government of other countries do give same privileges to their senior citizens same as ours or they are have more.
Do share your thoughts.

Those privilege for our seniors is really good, even their family benefits from it. I just wish that the cash incentive is the same for every city/municipality.??
My father just turn 60 last month and he's so excited having his senior card but he's also sad because even if he's still strong and able to work, he was forced to retire already.??
Now he's thinking on what to do to earn, although my brother and I can help them, still he wants to earn and have something to do.
I hope companies can give extention for those senior employees who are still able to do their jobs despite the age, after all our president is a senior himself.??

Yes, your right. At least the discounts given to them are of great help aside from the pensions they get from SSS/GSIS. I agree too that some seniors/retirees if given a chance to continue their line of work they can still do fine, but because there's a law that requires them to retire so they have to abide to it. .
Again as you have said why are politicians exempted, well it's the people who put them in their position.
About their cash incentives I think it depends on the capability of their municipality or city

@stanley777 but if they are not allowed to run for office then they will not be voted.
I wish that law can be ammended. Now I realize how important it is to prepare and save for our retirement. so that when that time comes we will accept it with no worries and just enjoy.

@ckyera Yes your right, I guess the problem is with Comelec and our system. Maybe there is no law banning them to run for office or if there is, they still find loopholes so they can pursue their own interest.
Some of them are too old to serve our people.but still they insist on running.

It is true, there are also free movies on certain days of the week, and richer cities like Makati City have high monthly allowances for seniors aside from other perks they are already receiving. I think other rich countries have more privileges than in our country.

That's right, some highly urbanized cities do that because they have resources to support their elderly and also for their health care. It is possible that several rich countries provide more for their older people.

@acelawrites that is a really nice perk, i hope we also have it here. The cash incentive for senior citizens in our place is just small even if the prices of goods are the same in bigger cities.

The seniors deserve the discounts and privileges. They need to stretch their finances for the medication and luxury.

@stanley777 Totally true. Eats up 1/3 of my monthly food and medicine budget. I could have enjoyed more fruits instead of pills.
