Princess is old. About sixteen years old. For the last few years the vet has said she has dementia. I also know her body hurts and has arthritis.
She pretty well chooses how she lives and we adapt around her. Lately she has been sleeping in a laundry basket in our bedroom. That is where she slept last night.
At four this morning I heard her "cry out". I do not know if it was a dream, or pain, or what. We got her and put her in our bed. It did not happen again. She stayed on our pillows until around six, then was up asking for a drink in the bathroom.
I think her bad experience was worse for us.
Of course it could be there was a couple of strays outside our bedroom window. I never thought of that. I see footprints on the front porch.

That is soooo sad and I agree. It's hard to see a pet in pain!!

Mostly what I notice is that she is getting weaker and less well balanced, but still wants to be in the highest spot in the room.

@Hate2Iron Like me she would like warmer weather and more sunshine and a quiet place to sit and enjoy it.

Poor girl. I hope she feels better today. It is always worse in some ways with fur babies as they cant tell you what is wrong.

She did not seem bothered at all, which is why I wonder if it was a dream. I do not know if animals make noises in their sleep.

@GardenGerty I have a few that do. Bambi will yipe like she does when she jumps a rabbit. Jill and Bunny will both growl while sleeping.

It is hard when pets get old like that. They suffer like people do.

It is, but it is easier I think than having them die too young.

Most of the time she is very happy. I have had her get "lost" at night and go looking for us.

My cat sees me and then she goes off looking for me too. I hope she is ok.

It is sad, but it is good for me to know we rescued her when she was a baby and a stray and she has had a good and comfortable long life.

Dealing with pets in their old age is quite a trauma. Preiti is old and she does not eat for days She has lost a lot of weight and this is sad to see.

She has gotten very picky about food. Prefers to see us take it off our plate and put in hers. Then again, she will go eat it all up in the middle of the night.

No, most of the time it does not seem to bother her. She likes to lay on a warm spot with a lamp on her, or in our bed which has a heated mattress pad.

Basically when you commit to a pet you plan to go all the way.

It is impossibly hard when your beloved pet is in pain or distress. Because they can't tell you how they feel we sometimes just have to assume what makes them more comfortable. I am so sorry to hear that she is having the health problems. My heart goes out to you and your Princess.

I felt like we were more disturbed than she was. That is why I am wonderining if it was a noise outside.

It is a very hard time to have pets when they are old. My daughters dog is almost that age. Just love Princess and treasure each day.

We do well. She bosses us around and basically does what she pleases. Sleeps a lot.

It is difficult, but then she seems fine. So I really do wonder if it was something outside under our window. That would have been the same direction from our bed.

I think you are right and that owners sometimes suffer more than their pets as they start to age and become infirm.

We had already made up our mind that Princess is our last pet. They are our responsibility and we worry too much.
