I'm new here and like mylot so I would like to know the difference between "mentioned you" and "comment" a response

What @myklj999 said You can be mentioned in a response, discussion or comment. You may haven't even visited the discussion but someone might tag you in it. Someone can comment under something you've written but not necessarily be talking to you. Like if you've responded to someone, another person might comment. It would show up in your notifies as a comment unless they've tagged you, and then it would show up as a mention You can adjust what you get notified by in the settings menu.

@Clemensau The only time you really need to type out a person's username is if you are commenting to them directly. Say you are commenting under a response from someone else's discussion. You would want to @mention them so that they know you are talking to them directly. It helps when a conversation within a conversation gets complicated.
