Drones and Privacy

I came along this story this morning - (link at bottom) - man arrested for shooting a drone out of sky with shotgun. As it turns out, the drone was looking for a lost dog.
I for one don't blame the man. Drones feel like a real invasion of privacy and I don't think I would like one buzzing over my home. I would have no way of knowing that it was looking for a lost dog. It might be someone trying to look in my windows. It might be someone trying to see if I'm home so they can rob from me.
However if he was shooting the rifle in a populated area that may be an issue.
He should have used a paintball gun.
While I can understand that there are good uses for drones, I think they could be easily abused too.
What are your thoughts?
Article:
A volunteer animal search group had spotted 1-year-old pooch Dezi by a grassy area near Rutherford St. and Caldwell Ave. in St. James about 4:45 p.m. on Saturday — and launched a Mavic 2 Zoom drone above the spot in an effort to catch the canine.

There should be some rules when flying drones, in my country they had to make rules for them for privacy issues.

I think it's a great idea for the rules pertaining to drone flying

The technological age we live in unfortunately. Privacy has become a thing of the past unless your a politician with a gated fence or movie star living in the hills and luxury of Hollywood. And even they get invaded upon...

Faye, I can understand what you feel about the drones but you did learn that there are good reasons for them like locating a lost dog is one of them.

There are good drones good for reasons and bad ones for bad reasons.

True, just a pity no way to tell the difference in a drone on a noble mission and one who is spying

I think this drone thing can be a bad thing, and who knows what someone's intent might be with one of these things. A lot of these things have cameras on them, and who knows if one appears outside some woman's window trying to see her in all her glory? If it is above my yard, I would shoot it down too. This is my private space and I don't care what the intent is. I am entitled to my private space.

Technology really has a bad side when used by the wrong persons. And yes drones are a threat to privacy and security. The use of these devices must be regulated to prevent any untoward incidents to happen in the future. On the other hand, they may be used for the benefit of human beings for rescue operations, delivery of portable defibrillators, and the like. I hope you had a great day!

Good way to look at both sides of it. It could be a great help in any of those situations you mention, though there are those who would use it for unsafe purposes. Maybe they could make police or fire and safety only ones that are a special color or design so people would know that they are from a trustworthy agency
