My Son Was In A Movie

My son was an extra in a movie made for HBO.
I was downtown with my young son and we saw them filming and stopped to watch. The producer came over and said he needed two young boys as extras for the next day's shooting. I said I would come back with my son and another.
I asked my friend and we showed up the next day with my son and hers who were best friends and they spent the day doing different shots. They were always running through the scene, but had to stay on their marks and run exactly where they were directed to.
It took all day for three scenes. They were volunteers and were not paid. My friend and I stayed close by and kept an eye on the boys. The scenes had to be reshot several times and each set up took quite a bit of time.
In crowd scenes and out door scenes you will almost always see children running through the crowd. I always look for them now even 25 years later! I'm hoping to spot the two boys because I lost the card that had the name of the movie on it and since we did not get HBO at the time, never saw the movie.
It was quite an experience and both boys are grown now. None of us have ever seen the film!

That is great they had that experience, but it is sad you don't remember the name of the movie. Do you remember hearing what famous actor was going to be in it?

I had heard of the actors at the time so it was exciting to see them. . One of the scenes had both stars in it. But I don't remember who they were. Not an A-Listor or I would have remembered but I had seen them in other things on TV so that was cool.

@Jeanniemaries it's great they never got bored with the waiting around and took direction well. did they tell you what they should wear or did they provide the clothes?

The boys were about 6 or so. They are 33 today. LOL, it was a long time ago!

@Jeanniemaries I’m sure you would. Perhaps you can contact HBO for more information.

It's been so long now I doubt we'll ever see it but it was similar to the picture I put on. It was set in the historical district here and the kids ran through the pedestrians in two different scenes and in a field in another. I would know it instantly.

That is very exciting. So will you be able to see the movie? I was an extra many years ago here in Israel for a movie they did here. David Soul was in it.

Nice of the producer to ask them to join the movie as extras, but tacky when not even giving them anything in return. I know it was just for fun, but they spent hours of their lives there and as I understand it took more than one would have imagined. SMH

We felt the experience was its own reward. They had fun and had a good story to tell their friends. Getting a monetary reward would have been nice but we were well satisfied that they had fun. They told me upfront it would not be a paid gig.

@Jeanniemaries You are right about that, the experience indeed was a reward, Oh I think I skiped that fact then, if they already told you it would not be a paid gig, that's fine then, No harm done.

Sad that they do that or did that.. Especially when it is a movie that is shown a lot. But that is exciting that they were in one.

How exciting! I was an extra in the movie Deep Impact, well rather my car was..They were creating a massive traffic jams and needed alot of local vehicles. I got paid 400 dollars for two days "work" which was basically hanging out in the vehicle and I think at one point looking up in the sky!

That was unfair. You should have been paid regardless. (Do you remember the name of the producer? What was the month, year that movie was done? the location? From those info, you might be able to search for the movie done at the time.)
