A bit sad today as we've sold our bus/motor-home

Well, it’s a bit of a bitter-sweet day today. We’ve sold our big bus/motor-home and while it’s what we wanted, it’s hard not to be a bit sad about the sale. We originally bought it in Melbourne. Vince and a mate drove it over the Nullarbor. It broke down at one point but eventually we were able to strip all the interior out and convert it into a really comfortable motor-home.
It is a 12 ton bus and Vince will soon be 72. We’re not sure he would be able to get a licence for such a big vehicle next time around. And in May we’re heading overseas again so best to sell it now before it gets any older. We’ve been advertising it for over twelve months so it is a relief to sell it. But I can’t help feeling a bit sad about it.
The photo shows it parked on a bush track.

did they haggle for the price? did they come and drive it home? how old is it, by the way?

No, they didn't haggle over the price. They only had so much and we were anxious to sell it so we let it go. They drove it home this afternoon. It was manufactured in 1984 so it was an old vehicle although still very mechanically sound.

Must be like saying goodbye to an old friend - hope your overseas journeys go well

I knew the right person would come along. That is great that you sold it even though it is sad to see it go.

Difficult to part with possessions that have become integral parts of our lives. When that happens, it is natural to feel sad.
As always, what we let go will usher new beginnings. That is pretty exciting. Bon voyage.

@eileenleyva I'll put a photo. What would you call it? In the photo we've put up the annex which gives us extra space. When you want to travel you pack up the annex and the caravan is pulled by a car.

All these inanimate objects become part of a family. I felt the same when we replaced our washing machine which served us for 25 years.

I can imagine how bitter sweet this decision has been.
You've had so many wonderful trips and times spend in the bus, and having your husband custom retrofit it to your own needs and desires makes it one of a kind.
I'm sure that another couple or family will be happy to enjoy some fun and camping in the bus.

We've had a caravan for a couple of years so we'll use that more now. We took it over east last year. We weren't supposed to buy it till we sold the bus but it was a good price so we had both for a while. They've made useful extra bedrooms from time to time.

We fitted it out ourselves so we had invested a lot of ourselves in it, in a way. But it had to go so it's okay. I might go and eat chocolate for a while.

@Hate2Iron We were supposed to wait to sell the bus first but a good deal came up and we bought the caravan a year ago.

It looks great, but you have valid reasons to let go.
Our vehicle is not as large as yours.
Not sure what the restrictions are here for driving large vehicles as we get older, but it will no doubt come up soon enough.

@JudyEv will there be age restrictions on the caravan?

@PatZAnthony No. You only need a car licence to tow the caravan so even if they won't give Vince a truck licence we'll be okay.

That is sad to know that the bus you have written so much about will no longer be a part of your life. Sad, but understandable of why you had to sell it. But the memory of that bus, and all the great travels you had in it, will live on!

You have a lot of good memories attached, to that ole girl! Not to mention, the remodeling you did as a team, to make it as homey and comfortable as possible. You will hate to see it go, that's for sure

@kobesbuddy That looks a really nice table. Isn't it nice working with wood? There is the most wonderful smell from wood.

@JudyEv These home projects are priceless memories:) Jay and I built picnic tables one summer, as a team. I learned how to work a 'palm sander!' Not a very good picture, but one of our picnic tables.
