Simple Things

It's strange how the simplest things in life can bring so much joy. I love gardening but I have to confess I'm not a patch on my dad whose garden was always full of healthy looking plants, with masses of colour and all very neatly trimmed. Since my dad passed away I've had nobody to give me advice so I now turn to the wonderful Monty Don on Gardener's World on the BBC. Unfortunately, my winter months are lacking as he's nowhere to be seen but I've just seen on Facebook that the new series starts on the Friday after next. I've put a note in my diary to remind me to record it. Does anyone else have a particular TV series that they miss when it's off air?

Sorry about losing your Dad, I lost mine in 2017. I always say life is about the little things. I miss several series.

I love gardening too, my garden is a riot of flowers in the summer but it's barren at the moment.

@olliesmum It's not so bad if it's your own cat, but I don't have one so get very annoyed when they use my flowerbeds as their toilet. I love cats, but they are not the gardener's friends.

Same here. Unfortunately our lawn looks like a scene from the Battle of the Somme! One of our cats goes to the loo at the back of the flower bed but then tries to scrape the lawn over it. She doesn't seem to realise that the lawn is about 18" away from where she's been to the toilet!

@jaboUK I go along with that. Dusky poos at the back of the flowerbed and then walks forward and scrapes at the lawn but the leaves the poo uncovered.

@olliesmum I have Netflix and hate when the shows I like end the season and have to wait a long time till they come back. If cannot remember where left off so start at the beginning again.

We pay for box sets with Sky and usually they give you box sets to watch a couple of months before the new series starts. I'm currently watching Criminal Minds from series 1-13 (we're up to series 11) and I've recorded series 14 and won't watch that until I'm completely up to date.

@olliesmum What is Sky about? Is it free or is it expensive?

@Hannihar It's a satellite company. We pay for all the channels we watch. You can pay for the basic Sky channels but we've also opted in for movies, box sets and HD channels.

It's almost 20 years ago now since I lost my dad and I feel lucky to have had him for the first 40 years of my life.
