I have been looking for something to eat and we have these powders eggs that I have never tried before. So I made them up like it told me to and they didn't smell good at all but I was thinking maybe it's because they are powder. I added salt and pepper and they cooked up fine.
After I put them on my plate I added more pepper and ugh!! They tasted like they smelt. So now I know not to make them no more.

During World War Two (and postwar rationing) many people in the UK had to rely on powdered eggs because fresh ones were hard to get. People found that they were just about an acceptable substitute when used in recipes (cakes, etc) than when eaten as eggs.

@hillhjill I was going to say what John said, they may be good in recipes. Especially if you have something to cover the smell.

@hillhjill At least you have that choice - under wartime rationing you would not have done.

Maybe they would be ok in baking stuff, but I don't think I want to try it.

I don't blame you. I have had them before when I was in school but those were good and these were not.

When something I try to eat does not appeal to me, it upsets my stomach.

Yes I'm good, when I took the one bite my stomach started to turn but it wasn't enough to hurt me.

I've heard of powdered eggs, but never tried them. Maybe they would be better for baking then eating like regular eggs. Sorry they were not good!!

@hillhjill Do you just add water to them and then cook like normal eggs? Sounds like it'd be fine in theory but I am sorry it didn't work out!

Sounds like they are old and need to be thrown out if it smells bad even before you cook it

Oh I'm completely opposite, if I have something that's not good I will get full very fast and not want anything to eat afterwards.

I love eggs and these powders eggs came from a food pantry, so I don't know how old they are with no date on the package.

@hillhjill We had them a time or two from a food giveaway as a kid. I did not know that they still made them. Mom only used them in cooking. We did not like them.

I never understand products like this. How much are powdered eggs? WAY more than regular eggs. And how hard is it to cook an egg? NOT hard at all. To me it is just a waste of money and nothing can replace the real thing. Just my two cents.

They were free from a food pantry that we went to, and we didn't have any eggs on us that night.

@Nevena83 they are a big thing around here if you go to a food pantry, I can see why they give them out for free as no one likes them.

When we stayed at the Hampton Inn for a good 3 months, they had the free breakfast going every morning and all that...and I guarantee you those were some kind of powdered eggs they were serving. They tasted like pancakes or something. I didn’t care for them. Because I got the feeling they somehow added some extra carbs to them. Something was off.
