Would you end a friendship over politics?

This is something I've seen a lot on facebook. People ending long term friendships because of politics and others who have completely different views and remaining friends. So I was wondering if you have or ever would end a friendship over politics? I've stopped being friends with people who are homophobic or racist because obvioulsy that's a big thing and not the type of people I would want to associate with but I don't know about ending a friendship based on their political party but I also see both sides so I wanted to get other peoples opinions.

I would not no, I would not end a friendship for that reason unless I was being constantly preached to about it.

That makes sense. I can't stand when I have a different opinion about something and the other person or people try to constantly get me the change my mind

I stay out of the political discussion since it is very sensitive.

I wouldn't. Those people are shallow to do that.

I agree if the only reason was because of politics.

Friendship should be more than politics or religious beliefs.

I agree. I have friends who have different beliefs than me and it doesn't affect our friendship at all

@rakski I think thats the way it should be. Being able to discuss anything and hear each other and not let it get in the way of the friendship

Most of the time I wouldn't, however if they reach the point of being too much of a fanatic I might. And that goes for more than just politics.

That's where I am too! If you have a different opinion it is okay but if you constantly have to talk about it, shove it in peoples faces, and try to make people seem less than then i will

No, I won't. I think it is a little childish to end a friendship because of the different politics opinions. Everybody can have a different opinion. It is no need that we have to agree the same.

I agree. A difference of opinion isn't a reason to end a friendship

Of course, I'd end a friendship if they didn't believe in what I believed. In a heartbeat. I'm kidding. As long as they were not racist or homophobic, and as long as they respected my own beliefs as I would respect theirs, i would stay friends. The minute someone disrespected me on any of the subjects, I'd seriously reconsider our friendship. If it was a misunderstanding, I'd consider being friends again, but I'd be mindful and watchful of them.

Your comment definitely made me laugh lol That's where I stand if we have a difference of opinion that doesn't disrespect someone for who they are I'm fine with it.

I don't have a problem with a friend having different opinions from mine, but I hate when they won't shut up about it. Especially those who post those stupid, simplistic memes. I don't unfriend them, I just hide them for a month to give myself a break.

If the friendship is real, it won't end for anything.

I half agree. A friendship won't end if its real but sometimes real friendships do end and fall apart for a while before reconnecting
