Hi from Chicago! No, not really, but I'll tell you, the snow I drove through on the way home today was more indicative of Chicago than Louisville! Now that I've slipped and slid for the shopping chores it's time to dance! Here's the first song on my list of songs with "dance" in the title....and one everyone probably saw coming. #10: Your Mama Don't Dance - Loggins and Messina Anyone surprised? Anyone at all? I know, just surprised that I'm not using Poison's cover. The biggest hit from Loggins and Messina is the fun ode to the generation gap from the 60s. People probably don't realize this now, but "back then" there was stiff resistance to rock music. If you've ever seen Good Morning, Vietnam you've seen it with the problems Adrian Cronauer had playing "unauthorized music." No, that wasn't just a movie plot, it was the "older generation's" attitude toward rock and roll. So why not have a fun song about it? Kenny Loggins was an unknown staff songwriter when he teamed up with former Buffalo Springfield/Poco member Jim Messina to form the duo. Although their career was brief (1971-76, after which Loggins became the king of movie soundtrack theme songs in the late 70s and early 80s ), they had an impact and left a good body of work, including their best-known song. Not one of my favorites but I sure do remember this song. Even some of the lyrics while listening.

One of my all-time favorite duos! Messina was just supposed to produce Loggins on the first album as I recall (thus the album title "sittin in'), but they wound up as a very successful recording duo and great friends. Much to their dismay, this song was a throwaway and didn't represent their sound, although I really liked the tune. P.S.- saw them in concert promoting the "Full Sail" album, an excellent LP, with many outstanding tracks

I'm not saying anything. Loggins & Messina said it. My mom didn't dance...she had no rhythm at all. I once told her how white she was, a joke she didn't get until she saw The Jerk starring Steve Martin.
