Never one to disappoint, I have the first of a number of "familiar names" in my countdowns here in this list of songs with "dance" or some variation in the title. There's a connection to yesterday's song in a way...at least this band was mentioned in the discussion of yesterday's song. But that was yesterday, and yesterday's gone. Ooops, wrong song. Here's the correct one. #9: Let's Dance Tonight - Poco Jim Messina was a founding member of Poco after Buffalo Springfield dissolved. He left before the band's From the Inside album and was replaced by Paul Cotton. After this album Richie Furay would leave as well, shrinking Poco to a quartet (where they'd stay for a good number of decades). Before he left, however, he gave the band a marvelous closing number: "Let's Dance Tonight." Poco has always been a feel-good band. Even when they were singing of the heartbreak of "Crazy Love" there was a sound of optimism in the song. Here Furay's happy as heck about the notion of "slippin' away, heading out to L.A." for some music and fun. And boy, does it show in the bridge. Woo! A happy farewell from a founding member of a great country-rock band. Let's Dance Tonight Written by Richie Furay Recorded by Poco From Crazy Eyes, 1973 This rock and roll feeling:

Good old Poco. Another era. They were always around LA.

Furay and Messina sure had some major contributions with Poco as well as with other groups. The Souther-Hillman-Furay album is one of my favorites and the debut Loggins and Messina (Sittin In) LP blew me away with some terrific Country Rock tunes

I think the SHF should've been bigger than they were. Can't beat "Border Town"!
Great JD Souther contribution off their first album.

@dgobucks226 -- I think the musical tides were shifting by the time the SHF came along. I'd love to see them do a reunion!!!

@FourWalls Ah yes, I played the grooves out of that album. All three contributed great tunes along with terrific vocals. I guess three musicians with so much talent makes me wonder if egos and different musical or personal directions played some role in their eventual breakup?
