I know people in the UK will be aware of this problem but others from farther afield may not. We're currently having a problem here with gangs and related knife crime. The situation appears to be worsening and several people have been stabbed to death - some maybe not so innocent but also some who were totally and utterly innocent. The consensus appears to be that the problem is primary due to the fact that we have less police than we had a few years back but, when I was watching Sky News yesterday, I had to admire a gentleman who had the guts to say that it's not all down to a lack of police on the streets, but also a lack of discipline by the culprits' parents. He went on to say that, on investigation, he discovered that a lot of the parents had no idea what their kids were doing when outside the family home and no idea where they were. Nor did they have any idea of what they were doing on their computers and mobile phones. They used social media to contact each other before going out and causing mayhem. I can see where he's coming from. Although in my village we don't have any knife cream and, in fact, have very little crime at all but we often seen small children, probably infant school age, riding around our avenue on their bikes with no adult supervision. It's evident that the parents have no idea where these children are. It would take just seconds for a car to hit a child on a bike as he or she came straight out of a cul-de-sac onto the main hub of the avenue or, even worse, it's an open invitation for a child to be abducted. Are you thinking that the parents should take some responsibility for these crimes or are you of the opinion that it's purely down to a lack of police on the street?

It the parents who need to be more active and a general society that has created this environment. I had previously read of England's gang and knife crime issues that the government tries covering up to the outside world.

Thankfully it only seems to be in our major cities. We don't have a problem here in Norfolk but I believe London, Birmingham and Manchester have serious problems.

I do think most kids could do with a bit more discipline in the home. Parenting is hard work and some don't want to be bothered. However, at some point, the parent becomes pretty helpless at stopping older teenagers doing what they want.

I think parents should be held responsible also.

It's always easy to blame parents, but on the other hand it is not natural for children to be supervised all the time - we also bemoan the fact that children are supervised too much and not just allowed out to play in the streets and fields as they were in the 'old days'. It's great to hear that children near you do play out on their bikes and aren't just kept in all the time.

Firstly, life is one way ticket, everyone has only once. Secondly, everyone should know that do as you would be done by. Besides, love others as we love ourselves.
