Ankle Update

I finally have an appointment with an Ortho Dr that specializes in ankles. I could have had an appointment with him this past Monday, but I thought my knee doctor would be willing to see me after looking at the xrays. I found out too late that he was overbooked this week and also that ankles aren't his speciality and he prefers that I see someone that can give me a better idea of what I need to do. So...
My appointment is this coming Monday afternoon. That means that I will have to be off work another four days until he sees me and decides whether I still need to be off work, or maybe it's healed enough on it's own that I won't need special restrictions and can return to work the next day. I won't know about that, though, until I'm at the appointment next week.
The office of my knee doctor will be writing me another slip that I need to be off work until next Monday, so being off this long won't impact my job. It will just put a hole in my pay.
I also found out that no portion of any bone separated from the main bone. When they call it a fracture, it's because the tendon separated from the bone and that needs to reattach. The office of my knee doctor said they didn't know, but I might be required to get it cast or wear a boot cam. I know I could still work if I had to wear a boot cam, but I don't know if I'd be allowed to work from either side (Dr or employer) if I had a cast.
I'm thinking I might not need either since it barely hurts. I took pain meds early this morning and haven't needed it again since then. I did some extra walking since I bought a new monitor and then later exchanged it. And still my foot isn't hurting. The swelling I had the first several days is completely gone too, so I'm praying that I can return to work late Monday or at the latest on Tuesday without any problems.
If it's decided that I should be off longer, then I'll take my short-term disability paperwork with me for them to fill out. That way, at least, I'd get some money each week while I'm off.
I'm guessing another xray might need to be done just to make sure the tendon has reattached correctly, but that remains to be seen until next week.

It's been two weeks today that I fell and I think it may be mostly healed, but I have yet to see any doctor about it. I did at least get the xray and had someone read it last week, so I have a clue of what happened. My appt got postponed until tomorrow morning, Wednesday as the dr had a last minute surgery. I'm hopeful it's healed enough I can get back to work, but I don't know about these things, so we'll have to see.

@responsiveme Whether I can go back to work right away or whether I might need to be off a few more weeks, at least I'll know, finally, how I'm doing and if the healing is progressing or not. I'm guessing it is a lot better. But either way at least I'll know.
If it's healing I'd like to begin moving my foot around more, sort of like doing physical therapy so the foot stays limber, but I don't want to begin doing that if the tendon/ligament still has some healing to accomplish. I might find that either way moving my foot within normal limits might do that area good.
I can do more with my foot than I could last week, that's why I think it's either almost healed or all the way healed. I don't know whether the dr can tell by feeling or whether another xray will be needed to be sure.

@arthurchappell I'm hoping that it's healing okay. THey would probably need another xray to know for sure. II tried to move my foot inward just a bit ago and realized that might not be a good idea, so it might have to heal more than I think even though it doesn't hurt that much.
Okay, time for a break.

It sounds more painful than it really is. I'm hoping it'll almost be healed by the time I see the dr although I might need another exray to determine that. When I'm walking around more, which I've been doing more this week for various reasons, it seems to hurt just a bit more. But the way it hurts now is so much less than how it was hurting when I had the wound, that it is very minimal.

I've yet to see a doctor about it, so although I can walk on it fine, I'm trying not to do too much until I know whether it's still damaged or not.

I'm hoping I don't need any boot or other measure either. My snow boot wore a new hole, a little one that I caught soon enough right where the last wound healed. It just means I now have scab tissue in the area where there wasn't a scab before. I've found that when I put bag balm or neosporin on it and cover it with a baby bandaid, it's good for awhile and then it gets that scab type material again. It may happen for a while.
A few years ago, I scratched off a scab and had to have stitches on the vein. It took that scab over a year to heal up fully, so this isn't bad other than that it didn't have any scab when it first healed. I no longer wear the winter boots and haven't been looking forward to the boot cam for that very reason.

@MarshaMusselman I'm glad that wound is healed and hope you don't need the boot cam either.

Guess you need an XRay or some scans. That is the best way to know for sure if you need to rest your knee / ankle longer or not. (I got trouble with a foot ages ago, the doc sent me to an ultrasound & an XRAY. They pinpointed the problem right at once. )

I had an exray already last week and the problem isn't as bad as I thought it was last week. At least no portion of bone got pulled away. I'm hoping by the time I get in to see the dr that it will be healed even more. they may need another xray to determine if it's any better, I don't know that yet, though.

@MarshaMusselman Glad to hear that the problem is not too bad as you had thought at first. I remember when I had my X-Ray & ultrasound over my hurt foot, I was relieved - in a sense that I was not imagining the problem at all.

I have been resting my leg most of every day except today and this past Sunday. Then I went to church, but otherwise I stuck close to home. Today, I went to the store twice related to the monitor and then I was going to take my van to the mechanics, but the thing that quit working began working again on the way and we turned around and returned home instead. I almost forgot, that yesterday I was out twice, also, when I took my computer to the computer fix it guy and then picked it up again later.

@Nevena83 I did get rested when I wasn't running around all those days. A few days, I was in the recliner for more than eight hours. When my husband isn't working, I have to share it with him. He's there right now, but once he goes back to his computer, I'll get in the recliner and put my feet up on pillows. I'll be fine.
My foot isn't swelling, nor is it sore, so it should be good. I'm not working right now, 8 hrs per day standing mostly in one place, so actually, I'm resting more than I would have been had I kept working.

The swelling was already non-existent before I began doing a bit more. Now that all my running around is done, I'll try to spend more time in the recliner again just to ensure that it will be closer to being healed all the way. I can't see that he'd know without another xray, but if he touches my foot he may be able to tell just from his touch especially since he'd see where the tear was on the xray, which I've no clue about.

I'm hoping so but until my appt I won't know how quick these types of injuries take to heal.

I do feel ya, I fell last year and thought I broke my ankle, that was some serious pain. It was sprang according to them but it popped back into place at home, so really it was dislocated. I still have pain every now and then in that ankle.
Good luck to you!

Yikes, Andria. Did they not wrap it up or anything, or didn't you get it checked out after it happened?
I sometimes wonder if I didn't get the xray and just continued to work whether it would still have healed naturally. But, I've heard stories about people not taking care of their sprains after it happened and having problems the rest of their life. So, I didn't want to take any chances since I'm on my feet so much when working either job.
I can pray that yours heals the rest of the way so it doesn't bother you even if only periodically. Have you noticed if the pain is mostly weather related? It could be the joint that's affected and those can hurt even when they've not been injured.
