I use a laptop, however, two of the computers in the house have a television as the monitor.
I use the firestick from amazon, but we do have cable here as well. I pay for the subscription services, someone else pays for the cable.

Amazon has done a good job with the FireSTick. We have one in our bedroom upstairs to watch movies etc!

I use a laptop at home. My TV is a smart TV, so I could use that as my computer screen if I wanted, but most of the time I do not use my computer in the same room as the TV.

My wife and I each have a MacBook Air (laptop), and all other computers are accessed remotely with TeamViewer, AnyDesk, or RemotePC. There are three TVs in the house, including a 55" Sanyo in the living room. The big screen has an HDMI extension cord plugged into input 2, so I can easily connect a device that's sitting nearby. There's also an Actiontec MyWireless TV2, which allows me to connect wirelessly to a device up to 150' away. We also have a few monitors, but none of them are in use at present.

your house sounds like mine! Have you looked at or consider the AirTame product?

It looks nifty. Not for me, though. I don't like connecting unsecured devices to my internal network. And I only need to stream one device at a time, anyway.

@santuccie unsecured is an interesting argument, i suspect you would find there are no secure streaming devices. Just secure networks they sit on.

We have a large led T.V. That can also be connected to the computer if we want to watch something from there. I also have several T.V.tuner boxes that could convert any led or lcd monitor into a television.

@DocAndersen i like interchangeable to make things flexible and practical since the house has 4 rooms and of course the living room where the main TV sits., cable line is on all the rooms and the whole house has wifi.

I have a laptop that mirrors to the TV via Apple TV. Usually I only have the TV on when I’m watching DVDs.

@KlyliePot — generally, no. I have a region-free DVD player because I like some old British TV shows that I watched as a kid, and they’re only on DVD in other countries.
