The Dirt Band is actually the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. They went by the shorter name 1976-81. The band has been around forever albeit with numerous personnel changes. The pioneer country rock group formed in 1966 in Long Beach, California and Jackson Browne was an original member though briefly staying.
“Make a Little Magic” makes the grade primarily for featuring the late wonderful singer Nicolette Larson on backup vocals. From the album of the same title, the song was written by band members Jeff Hanna, Bob Carpenter and Richard Hathaway with Hanna singing lead. “Make a Little Magic” is an excellent example of the band’s gentle country rock sound with the added bonus of Larson’s vocals. The song charted at Billboard #25. The Nitty Gritty Dirt band never became a big time group but have endured.
