Living With A Snake

I woke-up few hours ago to check up my mails and to download a tutorial from Youtube. Whenever I have to learn new skills online, I have always had to sleep early because there will be plenty to do in the middle of the night. Exhausted looking on the screen of my computer I had the feeling to go to the kitchen, not to do anything anyway.
I stood up from my chair, walked to the kitchen and there a friend lay on the floor of the kitchen, a Snake .
I was shock and reach for a stick but then the Snake varnished. Still surprise to me to learn that I have been living with a Snake in the same apartment. Any repellent you can suggest for me. I don't think I will have to close my eyes again till the neighbors are awake.

That would creep me out! Do you think it could have been poisonous?

@1hopefulman I hope so. I have been more vigilant at home. I have also cleared out the Kitchen and also placed bitter kola at the corners of the Kitchen and in my room. I learnt they repel snakes quite easily.

We are the same because my house is made of a wood and live near a grassy land. One time my daughter will use the toilet outside the house and when she start to switch the lights on she saw a snake moving near the switch so she did not touch it,she called me but when we go there it is gone and we don't know where it is now.Maybe in the nearby holes or maybe in the tress hiding.
