Freddie Mercury and Mary Austin

I've always liked the band Queen and I have always found Freddie Mercury to be interesting if nothing else. Definitely a bit crazy with his strange obsession for his cats. I understand loving an animal but to call and talk for hours to an animal that probably isn't listening seems strange if nothing else.
I think what in particular fascinates me about him is his love for Mary Austin. I think almost anyone who knows anything about Freddie Mercury knows he was gay but before he came out he loved a woman. It was the way he loved her that always sort of fascinated me. It was a love of friendship and almost of a soulmate despite her not being the gender he was attracted to. It was like he was attracted to her personality and who she was as a person.
He in an interview said he would never love someone the way he loved her. I think to me the idea that you can be in love with someone in that sort of way is interesting. It was like friendship but went beyond friendship and that's what's interesting to me. I mean my husband is my best friend and I love him but we are together with him and Mary it wasn't entirely like that. They were together and he was infatuated with her but he was romantically interested in men and yet he had this love for her that he never had for anyone else. I think it's this idea that has me intrigued.
To love someone like that without the romantic side of it and yet also sort of having a romance to it if that makes any sense? It was a complicated relationship. He never trusted anyone the way he trusted her and he never loved anyone the way he loved her and yet at the end of the day she wasn't the correct gender for him. She was the only woman and really the only person he loved that way but ultimately was attracted to men. I guess it's sort of an interesting concept to have a "soulmate" you don't end up with.
I personally have never entirely believed in soulmates I always figured any relationships were based on a chance meeting and then getting to know a person. I've seen too many people divorce or end up alone to really believe in soulmates but I guess it depends on who you ask. I think it all comes down to your own personal beliefs. I love my husband and I would go as far as to say he is the love of my life because he is the only man I've ever loved and I love him more than I could probably ever love anyone else but to say soulmate seems a bit of a strong word. The idea of him being meant for me seems sort of out of reach. I believe in God and faith but I guess soulmate seems a bit out of reach for me for some reason.
Freddie Mercury was just an interesting person and he seemed to do things differently than most. I feel like Mary Austin never got over his loss much the same as he probably wouldn't have gotten over her death had she gone first. I think there's friendship and companionship and then there's what they had which had its own definition it seems. Usually, you think of love you think of the different types of love which are usually a romantic love, family love, the love you have for your friends but they were something different. I haven't been able to fully put my mind around it I guess.

It was a weird love between them. It was like they were soulmates if you believe in that sort of thing but soulmates who weren't together in that sense at least not once he found himself which I don't believe he would have come to terms with it had it not been for Mary. It is definitely interesting but Freddie as a whole was interesting. I plan to finish watching Bohemian Rhapsody here soon I was about halfway through it when I started to fall asleep as it was late lol.
