While conducting online language classes, I came to know an interesting fact about pineapples. Throughout the world, they are mostly called ananas or something similar.
While I was teaching English to a lady from Poland, she told me what pineapple is called 'ANANAS' in Polish and I was amazed to know that we also call it by a similar name. I just got curious and asked another student, I can’t remember his nationality but he also gave a similar reply. I was surprised again and searched the internet and came to know that it is called by a name similar to ananas in most languages.
I am an Indian and in Hindi it is called ‘ANARAS’ and in Bengali, ‘ANAROSH’. Ras or Rosh means juice in Indian languages. Maybe because it is a juicy fruit it was given that name.
Picture is from google images.

@Sheali The name of fruits is the same all over the world if you use the "botanical name", that for pineapple is "Ananas comosus". As all botanical names derive from Latin, usually the closest is the Italian name, as you see, here it is the case. The botanical name of "apple" is "malus" and in Italian mela.
