Overtime; A Glutton for Punishment

Happy Sunday! Originally the forecast here said rain all day and 40s, so I signed up for overtime on my day off (today, 12p to 8p). Go figure the storm must have moved because it’s all sunshine and partly cloudy for the entire days forecast. Grr!
I don’t mind putting in 12s and 13s on my working days but for some reason working on my off days is the real struggle. I like my weekends and they are precious. As it warms up I will probably only pick up a little here and there, even though extra money is good too. I have some coworkers who workin every day off. To me, I can’t find the proper work-life balance doing that. Even just the 55 hour work week this week, I feel like I haven’t had time for myself. Hardly time to meal prep or catch up on laundry even!
Then again, I am thankful that the overtime is not really mandatory. But it is there if I choose to work it. Apparently not many places are like that.
Any overtime hounds out there?

I learned one lesson in life, never do that. Where you learn how they exploit us I suppose. Once is fine but twice you getting exploited by your betters.

I really don't feel exploited by my organization, mainly because they do not mandate overtime. I have worked in positions where if someone called out sick or if it was extra busy, you were mandated to stay several hours after your shift. And worse is when you are paid salary and you don't get paid for that forced overtime. So, in my case, I don't believe I am being exploited but rather helping my team out! As long as they don't start mandating it.

You are so blessed that you can pick up extra hours.

I work from home, just started back at it. I work as a freelance writer and I own an online store. So, I work whenever I am not bothered by others here at the house. I am hoping to start working some with my husband. He is also a freelance contractor. Sometimes he cleans apartments. That is when I will help him. Good luck with your overtime. Hubby keeps a lot of hours and I know he gets awfully tired. But you got to do what you have to do.

I used to do overtime on Saturdays when I was employed before. Since it is a retail company, we really have to make sure supplies are enough.
