Do you think gym should be a requirement for kids to graduate?

If so, why?

YES! Not only should it be required it should be more intense. Kids are horribly out of shape! I had 2 years of gym and was then and still am horribly out of shape, wish someone would have worked me hard on cardio and taught me more about the dangers of being overweight when I was a kid. Maybe then I wouldn't be an overweight adult now...

Do you blame your parents for any of that? Meaning your weight issues. I think all this could be taught in Health class as well as the parents, but I respect your opinion.

I don't think it should be a REQUIREMENT but I definitely think it should be stressed more. Kids today, from what you hear, just seem to get more and more unhealthy. I know what it is like to be a fat unhealthy kid, I have undergone gastric bypass.

I understand, but this could just be taught in Health class, knowing that they're different classes.

I also don't think that it should be required to graduate, but it should be part of school. Yes, kids can learn about health in a classroom, but that's no substitute for getting exercise. Considering how many kids are overweight these days, it's important to get them active. If kids take gym they may discover they like playing sports and stay active. If not, they may never be active in their lives at all.

I don't think a requirement to graduate but a requirement to stay physically active.During my time, some of my classmates were exempted to do some physical education classes because of some serious illness.I think not strenous exercise will do for them.

Yes, kids need to learn the importance of physical activity in maintaining good health, but physical and mental.

Good answer, but couldn't they just learn that in Health class, knowing that Gym and Health are separate but close? This is a question coming from my kids, believe it or not. =)

Very nice question. I have mixed opinions on this, and no one can ever really get the issue perfectly. I'll attempt to. Gym (I'm assuming you also mean P.E. or Physical Education), should be mandatory for those who do not exercise regularly. By exercise I mean cardiovascular activity. It should also be a mandatory requirement for all endomorphs or those who have endomorphic qualities. This would be great for them, because it would help them set a bunch of health related quality habits, that will ensure them of a life of vitality in the future. It would also greatly, help America in it's Obesity epidemic. For the other bodytypes, such as ectomorphs, they should learn some bodybuilding to build up their muscles and strengthen their bone density. As ectomorphs are more likely to get bone disorders in the future. That's just my humble opinion, hope it helped.

Thanks so much for the detailed response. The question I started was asked by my children to do. After thinking it over, I now think it's best to have gym in school because it's not healthy to be sitting all day. Again, thanks! =)
