I got a scholarship to study at Oxford this summer. I've been to the United Kingdom before when I was a teenager, but this will be my first time back in 15 years. I plan on doing some traveling around the Isle as well as some weekend trips to other parts of Western Europe. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go, stay, eat, and see?
I am working with a tight budget, so the cheaper the better!

It would be interesting to know in which country you live. Is there a reason why you don't mention it on your account page?
I've been to London twelve times if I remember correctly, from a weekend visit ot a stay of three months. I could talk about it for hours but can't pack my tales into a comment.

I'm from the US, California specifically, interesting that my profile doesn't mention it. My settings have my location set to US. I'll double check it!
That's awesome that you've been so many times! I can't wait to go back!

I did a quick journey to London and Dublin by bus last month, it is the least expensive way to travel from London to Paris, and if you take night coaches you save on hotels. Flixbus is usually less expensive than other companies. If you go to Paris, buy a Mobilis subway/bus ticket for the day, it is cheap, about $8.
Oxford is not far from London, and the permanent collections of national museums are free in UK, do not miss to give them a visit.

I have a couple of friends who live in London, so they'll be coming around with us most days, but they don't live in Oxford so it'll definitely be an adventure.

You live in an expensive are in the United States, expect the same kind of prices in the UK and most parts of Europe. Here is a link to inexpensive hotels in the London area. Discard those that are too cheap, but you can find something not too bad around $40 per night.

Most blogs have been suggesting this. How far is it from Oxford?

@Pcaldwell Approximately 70 miles there are plenty of tours you can join or hire a car bear in mind that most of our cars are Manual cars and not automatic plus we have much smaller roads than the USA and hundreds of roundabouts. I think you call them circles in the USA.

Not been in London for a long time now and although its expensive outside of the city itself there are cheaper places its just that I don´t know where as things change so much.
Hope you find somewhere nice and cheap and enjoy staying in England its really really good can promise that.

HI Paige and welcome to Mylot. Congratulations on your scholarship to Oxford. It is our best University in the UK closely followed by Cambridge. There are ample opportunities for travelling around Europe and you will find it is very cheap to do so. If you are under 26 then it is even cheaper. There are so many sites to check out. It will be great for you to make the most of it whilst you are here especially as the $$ is much stronger at the moment so you will get more ££ to the $. There are two main low cost airlines with crazy cheap prices to all over Europe as long as your print your tickets off in advance. There are so many historical sites to visit in England alone which could tie you to the UK till the day you die! It really depends on what your interests are. Do feel free to PM me anytime if you want to know anything about the UK. You must be excited beyond belief. Carpe Diem!
