I have struggled with insomnia my entire life. Some things that have helped me include the following:
1. Be sure you're getting plenty of B-vitamins, as well as vitamins C and D and magnesium. This will help your body to produce serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that regulates sleep (among other things). Supplement if you need to.
2. Take a sleep aid about 30 minutes before you go to bed. There are various types out there, but the ones that usually help me are those that contain melatonin. If you are getting adequate amounts of the nutrients above, the sleep aid should work more effectively.
3. Essential oils have also helped me as far as getting relaxed and clearing my head is concerned. There is one called "calming sleep" that I use right now (if you look it up, you should find it), but there are also others that promote quality sleep.
4. I have also used a white noise machine pretty much my whole life to create a more calming environment (some people use a fan for the same purpose). If you look on YouTube, there is also some "sleep music," which is designed to have a sleep-inducing effect. These tracks can last up to 8 hours; you'll just need something to play it on.
5. Try not to consume caffeine in the evening.
6. I have seen some studies that have shown that reading in bed before you go to sleep can help you sleep more effectively (and this applies to an actual book, not something on the computer/phone/tablet). Of course, if I am reading something particularly engaging and am not too tired, it tends to keep me up, so it all depends.
7. And, of course, I NEED my sleep mask (or my "Lone Ranger mask" as I like to call it), as I am sensitive to any amount of light or external stimuli - including anything out the window(s)!
8. Turn off all electronic devices in the room (minus anything you're using for the purpose of helping you sleep, of course).
So there are some ideas. I would also suggest trying to establish a routine and sticking to it. If you end up straying away from your routine, just try to get back in the swing of things again. Good luck!

Work outs before bed usually help me get quality sleep. You should try it.

do a work out. go for a walk. drink hot tea (with no caffeine). a warm bath can make you sleepy, too. sleep aids like melatonin work well.
hope you find a solution soon :)

Hi, welcome to Mylot. Maybe you can't sleep because there is something worrying you, before you go to bed don't start thinking of your problems.
