Halfway through this tribute to my late mother already? Wow. Her birthday was last week, and I thought one of the many ways I could honor her was to share some songs that might seem a little "out of the ordinary" for someone her age (when she heard them) to like. I do have a song "saved" for #1, simply because it's just weird -- even to me -- that she liked it so much. Meanwhile, nothing weird about this classic.
#6: Walk of Life - Dire Straits
Sure, I couldn't ever get mom interested in the Dead Milkmen or Violent Femmes, but other than that.....
One of my favorite songs of the 80s, period. And, what do you know, one of my mom's favorite songs of the 80s. The melodic beat probably got my mom. I also love the lyrics about a subway musician "tryin' to make it pay" by singing things like, "Be-Bop-a-Lula," "What'd I Say," and "I Got a Woman."
Classic Dire Straits.
Walk of Life
Written by Mark Knopfler
Recorded by Dire Straits
From Brothers in Arms, 1985

My mama loved Willie Nelson, Charlie Rich and The Platters.

My mom never cared for Willie as a singer. Neither do I (although he's a terrific songwriter).
I'm pretty sure, however, that the Platters album we had in the house when I was little was purchased by my mom.

@FourWalls I'm not a big Willie fan, but I like some of his songs.

I missed this post also. I don't think mom could ever get into the Violent Femmes.

Yeah, that’s asking a little too much.

I guess I may be on the same page with your mom on this one. The 80s wasn't my favorite decade for music. I mean, I was raising kids and working, not much time for music. I do remember hearing this one on the radio at work though. I like it.

A Dire Straits classic. As Knopfler might say about this tune "who-hoo" Of course he might also say there were maybe to many who-hoo's in that song
P.S. Your Mom and Princess Diana had good taste in Rock groups. They both appreciated the talent of this band!
