i remember a relative's daughter who would stop going to school.
she would go to classes at the start of the school year, then her attendance will start to get spotty.
but she'll show up during exams, and still pass the tests without cheating.
i don't remember having a classmate like that.
did you?
how do teachers deal with them?

were you ever bored if you already understood the lessons?

@hereandthere Yes, I was bored, but I was obliged to stay there and follow the lesson anyway.

In the US if your attendance goes really bad you, and your parents can get in trouble. Some places they have special enrichment classes for students who have mastered the average work. I was that kind of student, but they did not have the special classes when I was a kid. I would often pretend to be sick so I did not have to go.

As a former teacher, I can say that students are considered truant if they are not excused in writing, by phone, or by email. There are enrichment classes for those who exceed at academics to keep them motivated. Both my grandkids receive those services. However, my grandson acted out in a behaviorally unacceptable way in nursery school until he was tested. He was bored out of his mind.

that's what gillygirl did. she said she gave them more challenging work which helped with attendance and lessened disruptive behavior

I had read before that it is not advisable to let kids go to school at a very young age because eventually they will get bored in attending classes. I am not sure if this is true, and if that's the reason why those students you mentioned get bored in school.

Some people are gifted like that. They are better suited with "online classroom learning" than through a typical classroom setting..

I lived in a group house part of the time when I was in college. I had one roommate who never attended class, but he would show up to take the tests. He still managed to pass somehow. He may have been reading the texts on his own, but mostly he slept. I wonder what happened to that guy?

I would think that this would frustrate a teacher.

I didn't have a classmate like that but I remember an instructor in college who told us that he didn't mind if we're absent in class as long as we pass the exams and other requirements.
Some instructors are very strict when it comes to attendance. I think we had a school rule wherein if you incurred three consecutive absences, you are already considered as dropped in that particular subject. Up to this moment that I had already graduated for how many years, I still dream about it and usually, I get nervous that I was absent for how many weeks or months... But when I was in college, I was never absent except for one time when I thought my instructor was not around.

that's why my friend was happy when he switched to teaching college students because he said they don't need too much monitoring

She should attend a special class for the gifted; maybe there should be another approach of teaching them so they won't get bored.

I know there are those that are smart and they get bored easily because it is stuff they already know. and so get bored. They need to be challenged so they will not get bored. Maybe put them up to a higher class.

How old was she? We could only sometimes get away with that in college - otherwise, attendance is a must in our public schools (elementary - high school). My kids are kinda like that. My daughter is not the best or worst student - but we do have to push her to study at home because she won't (and she still won't) . . . and somehow she manages to do fairly well on her tests. My son is a smartypants and prides himself on being the smartest in the class - but he tells me everyday after school he is bored out of his mind.

I don't know why they take their class for granted. She needs to complete her studies, it's not good at all because tuitions are more expensive now compare before.
