I own a Prada brand handbag which I had bought years ago. I remember paying a good amount for it. When I say a good amount it must have been around a thousand rupees. Having used it for years I got bored with it and therefore had plans to dump it and look for a new one. Lo and behold. What do I see . The price is now in six figures. Even gold is cheaper. I have now picked my bag from the dump and placed it neatly where I keep my gold Should bags be this expensive?

I have one by "Bottega Veneta" that a client of my husband offered to me. I know how much it costs (same range as Prada), I never use it, as a matter of fact it is a useless handbag.

I have made good use of my bag. In fact I bought it when I was planning my Europe holiday. It came in handy.

@allknowing I use my bag when I have some important meeting or I go out for dinner. It's an elegant handbag and not something I would bring with me every day. I have a great "The Bridge" handbag for travels. It is not cheap (in the 400$), but far behind the price of the Bottega Veneta.

I bought two Prada bags for less than they cost me in the US when we were in Capri. One is red leather and was on sale for 25% off. The other was the usual black. My favorite store and the Prada store puts them on sale once a year. I don’t buy them anymore, because I like Chanel better.

Luxury designer handbags are my downfall, and I’ve been collecting them twice a year for ages. I have many Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Judith Lieber, Hermès, Chanel, and many others. My favorites are Chanel. Most handbags go for $6000 US. Don’t get me started on shoes or clothes!

@allknowing I saw a cute little one at my favorite store. It was wicker, but not worth the price.

I don't think think they should be but I'm am no judge at all. When it comes to fashion and branded items I am very stingy.

I find it ridiculous for the prices to soar like that.

I have one and I have been using it for years now. It was gifted by one of my husband's client from US when he came for dinner at our place. The quality is good and it can go for years. If you want a good quality one with affordable pricing, go for Boggit. It is a good brand. I have one which I have overused in last 3 years. I paid 3500 for it.

There are great brands but little did I know that the price would go this high. A lakh and a half for a bag is preposterous.

Thousand rupees in those days would mean may be 60 dollars but today the same bag costs around 2000 dollars but reading through @DianneN 's response I have no comments to make

That's why I always say, the value appreciates, not depreciate..
