Could you live without your smart phone?

As some of you know, I don't have a smart phone. I do all of my Google searching, emailing, data analysis, etc., at home on my desktop. I do all of my telephone conversing on my landline. I do have an emergency dumb phone, and I do take said dumb phone with me on long trips, but I rarely use it. OK, I might call a friend from a motel room somewhere in Utah or Wyoming, but that's about it. Would your life be difficult without a smart phone? I will attach a photograph of one of my favorite means of communication: sidewalk chalk. Horse Jr. was successful in getting a message to me , and his method was much more delightful than a phone message or text would have been. Note: I am currently unable to attach a picture to my post. I get an error message. I will try again later.

Do you have a landline? That's all I use for official business.

You operate much the same as us except for the sidewalk chalk. And I can't load photos either.

@scarlet_woman Would it be the Republican Safe Room or the Democrat Safe Room? I'm confused by the idea of Safe Rooms.

I'm assuming your dumb phone can't take pictures, right? I love having a smartphone because if I need to make a call, or check my email or go online I can do it instantly, without waiting till I get home. And I don't have to carry a bulky camera around if I need to take pics.

Would you ever answer a cell phone call if you were out to dinner with someone? My friend does (sometimes she even texts!) and it drives me crazy.

@MommyOfEli2013 Whew. Now that I think about it, I have TWO friends who will literally answer a cell phone call right in the middle of lunch or dinner.

@TheHorse Well I don't answer the phone typically anyways so not unless it was an emergency.

My smartphone screen
Well for me my smartphone is a need. Yet I also use it for Mylot, some Apps and setting and using reminders(very important). However, I do not talk while walking on the roadside, or when driving (very very dangerous- still many do it! ), and not when in washroom. Image is of my smartphone screen.

@TheHorse with my last phone- I always put it on silent. The current phone's ringtone is soft and gentle and so far I had no need to keep it in silent mode.

I have a smart phone which I use mainly for messaging (so could have had a dumb phone) or taking pictures (so could have used a digital camera). The smart phone makes it easier to put the photos online though. And next week I need it, 'cause I need to use an app to grade people redoing oral exams. I think I'm also supposed to find out how much money I get for that by using the app.

@TheHorse I have a fairly expensieve DSLR. Not the most expensieve pro model, but it definitly har more features than I know. I do prefer it to the camera phones, they're about as good as the compact digital cameras I've used. However, if I never changed lens, I might have opted for something else. But good quality lenses does make a difference. The problem is, I always want new lenses. Wideangle. New telephoto. Proper macro lens. I want them all! And since noone seems to be able to add pictures today, I'm not going to try ;-)

Heh. I have a really nice cheap digital camera that I use to take all of my photos. It came with software that allows me to edit, and I I use that software to edit even photos sent to me. The camera cost maybe $80 at Walgreens and the memory card cost another $25 or so. Here's my best sunset photo taken with that camera (oops, I cant post photos right now). But the point is that one does not need to spend a lot of money to turn out quality "work." Snobbily Yours, The Horse

I don't have a smart phone with phone service. I use a dumb phone (flip phone). I do have an iPhone that my son gave me, but haven't connected it as a phone. My son thinks I'm ridiculous. I do Mylot and other things on it.

I could do without I actually had one for a couple years and got rid of it for about 3 or 4 years. I then started my current job and they gave me one and so I now have had one again for the last 3 years cause they gave it to me and pay for it since I need to be able to be contacted. If it were not for them giving me the phone I more than likely still would not have one.

How often do you use it? A recent job gave me one, but I rarely or never used it. I am a creature of habit.

@TheHorse for personal use, hardly ever, for work stuff all the time, so during the week the phone is going off all the time but on the weekend it's barely used unless I get calls or txt about work. i'm not big on using the phone.

@Michellekidwell When I'm out to lunch with someone, in the middle of conversation with them, and they answer their cell phone, or check a text, I have bad fantasies. Very bad fantasies.

@TheHorse I turn it down, if I have Little Miss with me, her Mother has to be able to contact me in the case of emergency, usually I just leave it in my purse if she’s not with me! But I don’t eat out often!

@TheHorse I have both a smartphone and landline. My smart phone I do not use a lot and when do not need it turn it off to save on the battery. It helps me because calling all the time on the landline is very expensive.

It is a serious addiction among the young here, and studies are showing that cell phone use is associated with both social anxiety and depression.
