You just did not hear hard rock or heavy metal on alternative radio at least on LA’s KROQ in the 80s. There was an exception in the Cult. The band was described as post punk and goth rock but they sounded hard rock which stood out among the synthpop, goth angst and crazy hair. No matter because the Cult rocked hard behind the great voice of Ian Astbury.
“Fire
Smoke, she is a rising fire
Oh, smoke on the horizon, yeah
Fire
Smoke, she is a rising fire
Oh, smoke stack lightning, baby”
The song is pretty basic and simple. Hot woman. From the platinum album “Sonic Temple,” “Fire Woman” was written by Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy and was the band’s biggest hot single in the US. The song only hit Hot 100 #46 though Modern Rock Tracks #2. The British band formed in 1983, disbanded in 1995 and reunited several times since with Astbury the only constant.

They opened for Metallica? I just noticed there's a little Jim Morrison in Ian's voice in a few places.
BTW, this is not in my fire countdown.

@JohnRoberts -- why don't you just wait to see where a hunka-hunka song or two shows up!
