I can hear the groans from coast to coast. Many hear “Love Shack” as annoying. The B52s are not everyone’s cup of tea. The ultimate 80s party song is my favorite tune from them.
From the album “Cosmic Thing,” “Love Shack” became their biggest hit and eventually signature song. “Love Shack” was the B52’s first top 40 hit and gold single going Billboard #3 and Modern Rock Tracks #1. The international hit went UK #2 and #1 in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
The song is about driving on the Atlanta highway to a cabin outside Athens where band member Kate Pierson lived in the 70s. “Rock Lobster” was conceived there. The cabin burned down in 2004.
The famed yelled “Tin Roof Rusted” was actually an outtake from a jam session that was tacked on toward the end of “Love Shack.”

One of my ex-boyfriends loved this song. He worked at night and when he got home he played this song. It was really loud. At least I was never late for work, this song woke me up immediately

Oh, I'm shocked. Oh, I'm totally surprised. Oh, I'm kidding.
I don't hear it 24/7 so I don't find it annoying. But then, that's what I get for living in my own private Idaho.
Great series!
