Funeral Mass

This morning we attended the most beautiful funeral mass for a friend and neighbor who lived in our building. The amazing thing was that she planned her entire service herself, from the flowers to the luncheon that followed, all while quickly wasting away from cancer. My other friend, who is battling cancer herself, her husband, and my husband went to the service together in their car. Rather than have lunch there, we decided to go out for brunch together. I am blessed to have such determined and strong women friends who fought or are fighting for their lives. My father, his sister, and my uncle lost their battles with cancer, too. Has it struck your family or friends or you?

One of my best friends has lukemia. She's had it twice, but is now getting better. She's getting better. It's just really hard. But I am glad that she's on the road to recovery again. I hope she doesn't get it again.

My mother passed away last Tuesday after a lengthy battle with liver cancer. She fought the good fight, but she was in terrible pain all that time. She can now rest in peace and hopefully is in a better place where she does not have to suffer any longer.

My mother had lung cancer. But it was shrinking when her heart took her. I am sure the treatments did not help her heart any.

@DianneN Its ok now. Thanks Mom was 84 and I do feel that it was part of her heart suddenly getting worse. I think she would have been more comfortable without treating the cancer. But when you are looking at 6 months to a year or a chance of a few more, you do the treatments. But chemo is a poison and as such does have harsh side effects.

@wolfgirl569 My husband's brother had pancreatic cancer and didn't want to do the chemo, but one of his daughters urged him to do it. He was so ill from it, and couldn't enjoy what little time he had left. My father refused all treatments except radiation. He figured that his time was up. It's the ones who love those suffering from cancer who want to keep them around as long as they could. What a rotten disease. We need cures for it desperately.

@just4him Such a shame. That's what killed my father's sister. He quit then for years, then went back to smoking. It killed him, too. Yes, I'm happy he's still alive, no matter where the heck he's living.

@DianneN It's a shame. My late X was only 66. I'll be that this year. No, I have no plans on leaving loved ones behind yet. I have too much to live for. Besides, my family tends to have longevity in it, where his family didn't.

It has, unfortunately. We have had several in our family struck down by the big C. I am a cancer survivor Fortunately I had thyroid cancer. I say that because it is the easiest to treat. They removed the thyroid and some surrounding tissue and they haven't seen any signs of cancer cells in 6 years now.

@DianneN Thank you. In Serbia, more and more people who were ill with cancer, after the bombing of America, NATO, were bombarded with depleted uranium. Many children are sick with the most severe forms of cancer, and this is sad, and never has anyone answered for it.

In the generations I know of, we have only had one cancer loss. It was my little sister. She battled skin cancer, not a melanoma, but it went to her lymph nodes and then into her bones.

My dad has had cancer twice, well 3 really as he had some cancerous skin lesions removed. Currently though he is cancer free. He went to an oncologist last year who said with regular scans and what he has had done, there is only a 20 percent chance it will recur.

My wife lost her older sister to cancer about 10 years ago and she took over handling the Children's Liturgy on 2 masses every Sunday. She's been busy preparing some items she made herself which will be given to about 100 or more children together with the eggs on Easter Sunday. I love your photo, Ms. DianneN!
