Forced to write about a topic... Deadlines

I remember that school all the way up to my freshman year in college wasn't that hard for me. If I was given a topic to write about in an English class or whatever, no problem. I would do the research and sometimes when I was in college I could cram and write a 20page report in almost one night.
Now is a different story. As I've gotten older and have more control over my life, just the thought of someone "telling" me to write about a topic or giving me a deadline of when something has to be turned in makes me instantly rebellious. I either don't want to stick to the topic at hand or almost always miss a deadline. I realize now that I can't do that if I'd like to make writing my main source of income.
I'm trying to figure out where this rebelliousness of not doing something when it comes to my writing is coming from. I may have some idea but I'm not sure. That's a subject to delve into at another time.
Does anybody else have any issues with deadlines &/or not wanting to stick to a topic when it's assigned?

At the present moment, I can work my own hours. However, that might change soon if I take on a new job prospect.

Sometimes we don't have a choice...and then sometimes having all the choices in the world makes it hard to decide on just one!

@TishaMears I can imagine that working from home is not always easy, due to distractions, housework, laundry, etc. I hope you find a happy medium.

@DianneN Yes. Me too. I'm still trying to figure out things when it comes to working from home. Working on keeping a schedule with structure. I think there's alot of things I have to realize about myself to continue to try to keep pushing towards successfully earning.

@CarolDM I agree! I'm learning that it's ok to work at my own pace even it's very slow. I've been so used to following a super achiever's goals in the past that it's been hard for me to realize that I just don't have the capacity to be at a full steam ahead mentality anymore.

Yes! I agree with everyone. From making choices like @LindaOHio. To being able to make my own hours at the moment like @Spontaneo. To just doing it to pass for a degree like @missN19. Right now I'm just trying to stick to a schedule. I need structure. Doing things willy nilly is just not working for me.

@TishaMears yes at the end you have to stick to a program or a schedule or it won’t work and you will feel the same

I work with a deadline with my writing and don't mind. I have a book coming out in the fall and need to stick to it. I never really had deadlines before now.
I hope you can get to the source of your rebellion about the deadlines.

I did freelance writing some years ago. I switched to blogging because I could write on the topics that I wanted to write on. Every once in a while I do get a nice freelance gig though. My last one was my favorite 20 pages of writing about the history of professional wrestling. It was a subject that not only did I know well, but, I really enjoyed writing about. It did not take me that long to write it either. It was the editing that took the time.
Maybe you should try blogging there are free platforms.
