I saw for myself that the old saying that "mothers are closer to kids than fathers" might be losing its taste in our own generation. I watched my brother indoctrinate his child like his princess and lover. The girl is growing with big and unshakable self-esteem and aspirations. People are just different, and my brother is the best dad. let's walk the talk friends...that's the apex of volumes.

I think it really depends on the family. My sons are close with me. They have different fathers - Midi is very close with his dad, who has always been a great dad and put Midi first. Mini doesn't see his dad but he is close to my fiance (who has been more of a dad to Mini anyway). With my step-daughters, I think the oldest was closer to my partner as a child but the youngest was only 3 when their mother stopped my partner from seeing them. So, of course, they're closer with their mum. It's unfortunate because, judging by how they've been since we've been able to build on the relationship with them, they could have easily been much closer to their dad.

If all fathers were like him, i think kids would grow up with self confidence, thus they could decide whats right for them and not let outside influences mold them

I agree, fathers are much more involved with their children these days. Though my relationship with my father was very good back in the 1950s!
