Along with favorite "burn" songs I'm counting down favorite songs that have "fire" in the title. For the penultimate "fire" song I turn to my favorite southern rock act. Here's today's hot song.
#2: Fire on the Mountain - Marshall Tucker Band
The story goes that George McCorkle, guitarist for the Marshall Tucker Band, wrote this song for Charlie Daniels. Daniels didn't record it, so the MTB did. Smart move on their part: this tale of violence and shattered dreams during the Gold Rush became the first top 40 song for the Marshall Tucker Band.
By the way, when Daniels sings, "Fire on the mountain and run boy run" in "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," he's NOT referencing this song. There's an old fiddle tune called "Fire on the Mountain." It may have given McCorkle the inspiration for the title to this gem.

Down to just one more tune. I doubt the Doors will light your fire. You got some splainin' to do it if I don't feel great balls of fire tomorrow.

Great song along with "Heard It In A Love Song." It was their only two Top 40 hits.
