Giving Is Not Always A Waste of Time or Resources

A lot of people think giving is a waste these days, but my thinking is this:
I'd have no problem giving to help someone who truly needed it.
I've been on the needy end of that equation myself, and it's no picnic.
If someone is truly in need, and someone graciously helps them out, they will usually be thankful. As such, they will NOT squander what they are given.
What are your thoughts?

@josie_ oh yeah that's a great point.
If someone were sponging, with no effort to help themselves, that is wrong.
My grandfather when he was alive would always help when he could, but if someone took ADVANTAGE of his generosity he'd cut them off.
I remember he told me once about a family he fed, and he later even gave money to the dad, but the dad went & spent the money on video games rather than saving it for his family's needs.
Needless to say my grandfather was livid.

@jnrdutton _I don't blame your grandfather, I would too. He probably grew up in a home that instilled traditional values like discipline, dignity of labor, integrity and taking responsibility for one's actions.

If I had plenty of money that I could help others I would. So I give little bits at a time at times. I need the money we have to make sure we are financially ok and that is my cat and myself.

It's better to give than to receive. It always is a good feeling to share and give to others. If they don't acknowledge then it the burden is on the receiver. If kindness is abused the giver will not answer for it.

I always carry a few extra dollar bills with me to give to our homeless people. I know what it's like to be in need and I never hesitate to give what I can to help them out. I also leave my extra warm clothing and shoes that aren't worn out in areas that are frequented by the homeless so that they can have something warm and shoes that don't have a ton of holes in them to wear. My next action is to collect a bunch of socks that I haven't even worn and bag them up and set them out for the homeless. I try to get it across to the people that if we even give a little each it helps the homeless a LOT! I have reached the point of being so tired of the people that have tons of money thumbing their noses at the homeless and busily working towards adding to their wealth. They don't look at how helping others helps their wealth more than money and possessions ever will.
