Golden Jubilee...

50 years of togetherness.. It is a blessing to stay happily married for 50 long years and be healthy and fit to throw a grand party on this occasion for friends and family. Well I am just back from such party. It was 50th wedding anniversary of one of my husband's distant uncle and aunt. It was good to see the couple still so cheerful and in love with each other. It was overwhelming to see a house full of four generations and distant relatives. The food was good and it was heartening to see all the blessings and wishes filling the air. I got to meet so many of my relatives in that gathering whom I have not met in years. This was the third such occasion which I attended of a Golden Jubilee anniversary celebration. The first one was of my father in law and mother in law in 2007. They lived together for 60 long years before my father in law lost to cancer in 2017. Second one was of one of my maternal uncle and aunt and the couple are into their 57th year and they both are now suffering from a lot of ageing health issues and are mostly confined to their home. And this was the third one. It is a true blessing to have someone for so long in your life. I think very few lucky ones reach that milestone. I just wish to attend many more such functions and wish it with a silent prayer that one day I and my husband will be host for such occasion. Amen!! It is 11:30 PM and I am wide awake. Will mylot till I fall asleep. How is it going at your end??

The trend these days is to meet relatives only on occasions and sometimes it is years that one meets even a close cousin.

@allknowing That is actually sad about this generation. We were so happy to see our relatives and had so much to talk. The younger children made friends and played running around the garden. But it was sad to see the teens and youth. They were all busy with their mobile. They just shared their numbers and social media accounts but could not talk in person or enjoy together as we did.

Very true! World has become a global village and people have moved to different cities and even different continents. Our busy life even don't let us meet relatives in the same city so frequently.

Yes. And it is so rare and is a real blessing. They are doing good.. Are healthy and cheerful. So I hope they will add at least a decade more. Two years back they lost one of their son to car accident. But still they are strong and stand like a big support to the daughter in law and grandchildren. I love their spirit and choice to stay happy. They had three children and other son and daughter are there. Their granddaughter has a toddler. So it's their fourth generation.

Yes indeed. Nowadays marriages are so short lived. Everybody has heard of a divorce or two. When I was younger ..divorces in India were hardly as common. Last 2 decades have changed people a lot.

That is a social change that has its own pros and cons. I know quite a few divorced people in my friend circle. It was a taboo in old age and many suffered an abusive marriage. Moreover, people are getting married at late ages now and even if the marriage survives, they don't see a Golden Jubilee or would be too old and sick to celebrate it. So these are a few blessed ones.

@arunima25 The first divorce case I came across was merely 15 years ago. Last two years, I have heard 3.

@vandana7 Yes it is getting so common now a days. I had no clue of pre nuptial agreement. But my nephew and niece made sure to have one before tying a knot. That really amused me.

I am sure you would have crossed your silver jubilee. It is my guess as you are a grandfather now. Congratulations and best wishes to your sister and sister in law. Wish them many more years of marital blessings.

Just as an aside our Queen has been married for 72 years so she has also celebrated her Golden, Diamond wedding (60 years) and Platinum (70 years) Not many people make these special anniversaries! So far we have had our silve (25)r, Pearl (30) and next will be Ruby (40). By the way I got married when I was 3

@dya80dya That sounds terrible!! Having flu for six times can be awful. You can try some home remedies. Boiled ginger water is good. I have ginger tea regularly.

I think their simplicity, realistic expectations and respect for each other is the key. Our modern relationship succumbs due to unrealistic expectations.
