Earthquake in the metropolis

Just heard over news that we experienced a magnitude 5.7 in Metro Manila. I am just fortunate that I am still in my home province for an extended vacation that’s why I have not experienced the quake. I started contacting my co workers and they all said they were all startled and got evacuated but everyone was safe. I heard the epicenter was in zambales province that it created damages in nearby provinces. I also saw a tall building spilling out the water from the pool on top of the building. Looks scary, some schools and our mrt were suspended operations because they need to check the structural integrity of the building/structure. Looks pretty scary going back to Manila. They are expecting for after shocks so we have to prepare and be alert always.

In my country, a 5.7 earthquake is a mild one. Even I don´t bother to run to the garden although I am afraid of quakes. But I stay listening though. It can get worse.

@marguicha yeah I heard about two types of quakea the one that sways sideways and there are those that jumps up and down. Those type are the ones that destroy different kinds of structures.

@rsa101 I am very sorry. Many time, the damage depends on the way houses are built. In the latest big quake here, in February 2010, there was great damage in adobe houses in the south but I had no damage at all in my own house. Brick fences were destroyed in my neighborhood, but houses here are well built. Not so elsewhere

@TiarasOceanView there was a 4 floor public market that collapsed and flattened. They are trying to do aome rescuing there as they were able to get survivors still. But I have lost count about casualties.

@jobelbojel I guess so as there were minimal damages here in Manila. The only building I saw was the leaning of one building in Manila but it did not fell.

@rsa101 According to them, the condos in the metro are built to stand the quake.

It has settled down a bit and less quakes. It was a good wake up call for us. Sad for the families who lost loved ones.

Actually I never felt any aftershocks at all. But I guess you’re right a food wake up call for everyone. We really need to be ready for the next big one.

So far in the metro manila there is less damage that was left. Most of the sky high rise bldgs are there but they were ok structurally. Those near the epicenter were the ones greatly affected. An airport did have collapse partially discontinuing their operations. A public market collapse from 4 storey building to just one. Many roads and bridges also either got partial damage to major ones.

Very scary incident. After the earthquake, power supply was out. But now, good thing the power went back to normal. According to the news, expect 100 aftershocks. But while we were watching, they said 40 already happened. So few more aftershocks to go. Keep safe everyone.

There were casualties reported near the epicenter. But it looks like the capital did not receive massive damage yet.
