“Street Fighting Man” is the Stones’ most controversial song being politically charged during the Vietnam era. The song only charted at Billboard #48 because many radio stations refused to play it calling “Street Fighting Man” subversive. It was banned outright in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention. Jagger reveled in it but years later stated he did not particularly care for “Street Fighting Man.”
The song was recorded in London without Bill Wyman on bass. Brian Jones plays sitar, Nicky Hopkins piano and Dave Mason with the wooden Indian instrument shehnai. The album is “Beggar’s Banquet.” The song contains the much admired by their peers lyric “Well now what a poor boy to do except for a rock and roll band.” “Street Fighting Man” has been covered by Rod Stewart, the Ramones, Motley Crue, Oasis, Rage Against the Machine and others and Jagger-Richards say thank you for residual checks.

The original title of this song was "Did Everybody Pay Their Dues?" Glad they changed the title and lyrics.
