Photo Colorizing

I know people have very mixed views on this. Some love seeing photos "come to life" while others think black and white should be left well alone. Personally I enjoy seeing photos in color... that is, if they look somewhat natural. I find it so much easier to connect to history that way and even though I know the event happened, seeing the people in color puts it in a totally new perspective. I do photo colorizing and I pretty much self-taught myself. This is an example of one I did a few years back! I know there are a lot of colorists who run circles around me and my work, but I'm pretty pleased by how far I've come. I'm always open to getting better and to improve. My advice I've got so far is 1) don't be afraid to play around with different colors and blend modes because some photos are higher in pixel quality and sharper than others, no two photos are alike, and 2) don't just stick to the "soft light" blend mode; that leads to the dull, pale colors you usually see in colorized films/tv shows. Eventually I'd love to learn how to colorize film or a video. POP-Colorture (http://pop-colorture.com/) colorizes clips from old shows like I Love Lucy, and they look phenomenal!! I totally would love to get on their level.
