The Indian General Elections for 2019 for the lower house of the Indian Parliament, also called as Lok Sabha (People's Meeting place) is well underway. Due to logistics and security issues, these care being held in phases. So far three phases have been held. Some interesting things come to light like :
A) 90 plus year age people voting even with health issues. A 94 year old former policeman has voted in each election since 1951 (the year of first elections).
B) Highest polling booth in the world - above 5000 M above mean sea level.
C) NRIs - Non resident Indians - those who stay out of India but still Indian citizens specially coming to vote even with tight schedules.
D) A village area devoid of many basic facilities in Maharashtra voting en masse for a candidate recommended by their Sarpanch (Head of the Village) and nobody protesting.
Well the last one is, something that is of concern and may be that news article would make different political parties do something for that village.
But overall after reading all this, I feel why some people do not come out and vote to avail their voting power?

@LadyDuck I can understand some people might have to travel far. But often the polling booths are nearby and it is plain laziness of some folks, many of whom are healthy.

@anil02 but in one social media share, it showed third phase voting as marginally higher than 2014 due to late evening surge in voting in some places.

@Sreekala but we see some 90 year olds and even disabled folks turning up to vote. Either some become too cynical or too lazy to come and vote.

@Sreekala in future, a secured website option should also be introduced for voting, may be through biometrics.

@jstory07 yes if disabled and 90 plus folks can vote, why can't others?

Good to know that it has been peaceful so far.
I guess why people don't vote at times is because of past voting experience where it seems that their votes didn't count. So they feel that there is no need to vote again but this is wrong, we should always exercise our franchise. There is no other way to vote out corruption if not making your vote count.

@jonnyjoe yes I fully agree with your views. Voting is something we all should do regardless of the results.
