Looking forward to the long, light summer nights

It's getting dark now, but we're getting closer to the time of the year when it doesn't really get dark. Tourists have a tendency to have problems sleeping that time of the year, so what they remember from the north is great nature and sleepless night. I love those long, not really dark nights. The worse thing for me when I go somewhere in the summer is that it gets dark. We don't have midnight sun here, but it's not that dark. Picture is from last summer when a friend and I went out to take picture early in the morning. Daylight and no people around, it was great fun so we plan to do it again. For those of you that find yourself in the north: don't sleep in the night! You can sleep in the winter. Or during the day. Can you sleep when the sun's up?

I like everything near the Ecuador line, same hours of night and day. I cannot sleep if it's not dark outside.

The darkes place I've been must have been at about the same latitude as you. It was somewhere in the mountains in Austria (Salzburger land). We stayed a night in a hotel at the end of valley, and all other houses and lights where hidden behind mountains. No moon that night, I've never seen the summer night so dark.

@LadyDuck That was very strange in Singapore too. The sun set really fast, and then it was very, very dark.

@Torunn I remember when we visited Morocco how quickly it became dark soon after the sun set.

@simone10 Right now we're having long, grey spring days ... Lot of rain. It'll hopefully get nice and green afterwards.

Not that well. It stays light in Alaska too in the summer. I remember trying to sleep and neighbors were mowing their lawn at 11PM. That seemed really funny.

Here someone would phone the police if the neighbours did that :-) I'd like to go to Alaska in the summer. I should go to places with the same summers as here. I used to have dark blinds and all the usual things to make it dark, but at some point I decided to get used sleeping without them.

@Torunn Well, everyone was awake so it wasn't a big deal. This was a nice suburban neighborhood.

@snowy22315 They would have complained even more! Nice suburban Norwegians are a complaining lot, they have opinions about when their neighbours should do what.

Waiting for some better weather now, so I can take some turns outside in the night! Next Friday *crosses fingers and toes* it's time to start the summer plans. *checks map* Alaska's like Northern Norway, so sun all night. We have dusk all night, I must go north at some point to get sun all night too.

That's why we have winters! You just have to stock up on sleep in the winter. And of course there's the nice days when it rains so much it's dark all day anyway.

Who's the King in the North? Just kidding. How do you endure long, bright summer nights?

Depends on whether you want the Norwegian or Swedish king. For Jon Snow I'd suggest the North Pole, unless he has been chased away by the Russians ;-) It's not endure, it's enjoy. It's the long, dark nights in the winter you have to endure to be able to enjoy the summer nights.

I feel like that right now! Although it's dark now, I don't think I would have cared about whether it was sun or not :-)
