Bill Withers was inspired to write this song after watching the 1962 movie Days of Wine and Roses. The actors were both alcoholics who were both weak and strong.
He is quoted saying... "It's like going back for seconds on rat poison. Sometimes you miss things that weren't particularly good for you. It's just something that crossed my mind from watching that movie, and probably something else that happened in my life that I'm not aware of."
Bill Withers, then 31 years old, was working at a factory making toilet seats for 747's at the time he wrote the song.
I like reading the back stories of songs. You never know what kind of story you might find. Funny to watch the drummer in the video. He seems very happy. Do you know this song?

Of course I know this song! Who doesn't know this song. But to quote Senator Corey Booker ... "Ain't no sunshine today..."
We lost another music legend in 2020. I'm searching MyLot to find posts about him or that mention. This is the 3rd post.
William Harrison Withers Jr. (July 4, 1938 – March 30, 2020)

Excellent song! Just made a Cd playlist with that song on it. Many love songs either are happy ones or sad ones about loss.
