It is a bad thing to try to create a Windows 10 Recovery Drive using a thumb drive

I tried it. I wasted a perfectly good 32 bit USB thumb drive to work as a Recovery Drive in case Windows 10 crashed for some unknown reason. So I got this message from the error report. After the Recovery Drive process failed to complete for one reason or another, I had to remove the drive from the Windows Device Manager list and pack that bad boy in an envelope to see if I can go get another thumb drive that works. I think it better to just save for a 2 TB backup external hard drive instead. This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on %hs was not completed before the time-out period expired. Port_#0004.Hub_#0004 Can I just buy a new USB thumb drive? I have exhausted all possible solutions, including Microsoft Technical Support. The thing is, that thumb drive might have only been a 16 gigabyte drive. It said in the message before formatting that thumb drive, YOUR FLASH DRIVE MUST HAVE AT LEAST 16 GB CAPACITY AND it had to be formatted NTFS not Fat32 like it comes from the factory. And if you have had this problem yourself, here is yet another hot link. https://www.stellarinfo.com/blog/usb-drive-is-corrupted-and-unresponsive-recover-files/

It is so frustrating when you waste so much time for no outcome. I am not tech savvy person and would need help from hubby or elder daughter.

I found out that by putting another thumb drive in that same slot, it worked fine but I did not, repeat, did not attempt the recovery drive setup. I will use that drive just to save files as a flash drive. nothing else. Don't want a repeat performance.

@arunima25 , I can remember back when Windows 7 first came out and everyone was talking about how great Windows 7 was. The Windows 7 Operating System provided the option to create a Windows 7 recovery or repair disc using one single DVD disk. I hear they make 1 TB and 2 TB thumb drives. Its amazing how fast technology is moving forward with computers and all.

If only I had known this would have happened before I bothered doing it. Now I figure I had best look into it in depth. I was told by one of the Microsoft tech support people in a chat that I should get a better thumb drive. It is possible the one I bought was inferior. The people who sell inferior drives should be put out of business in my opinion.

I used a 32Gb flash to make a backup for this machine. It seemed to work fine, but who knows what is lurking inside!
