Bad news from my aunt.

I called my aunt in San Fernando as I could not reach her yesterday. I wanted to greet her for Mother´s Day as I haven´t been able to go. First I talked with my cousin and he told me that his mother was terminally ill. The doctors had discovered a tumor in one of her lungs and due to her age (92 years old) they could not take an MRI with contrast to see what sort of tumor did she have. So they are giving her only palliative care. I´m so sorry! Later my cousin gave the phone to her mother and we talked until the phone went dead. I talked him by cellphone and will talk to her in an hour more. We did have an hour visit though. And she was happy to talk to me. I´m so very sad. I was going to go to see them after Aruba, at the end on September. But now things will have to be different. I can go for a day with a night, taking with me a roasted chicken and some cooked rice in Tupperware pots.. I don´t want to intrude. I do love her a lot

I am so sorry, the tumors at late age advance slowly, I hope she is not in pain and she still have many months to enjoy life.

@LadyDuck I wholly agree. The most important thing is that they are not given too much at first so that it works when it is really painful

@marguicha Morphine cannot be used regularly on normal patients, but who cares if a terminal patient gets addicted, the important is to avoid pain.

So sorry to hear this. Just like my Mom when she was diagnosed with lung cancer when she was 91. Doctor gave her 6 months to live and to choose the hospice care for herself. She had NSCLS. She passed under hospice care in 2 weeks. I miss her a lot. I brought flowers to church for her for we had prearranged for me to go to church being that her grave is way beyond bus travel. I brought her favorite flowers to church. Prayers helps a lot. Cancer has stages that people go through. The last one is not eating. It's so hard to go through.

@marguicha Okay. When I got the news my Mom, had the sad news no treatment and given just 6 months to live. As the months progressed she ate less and less, got a mechanical bed and finally got transported to the hospice hospital where she passed. I talked to the nurses and they told me not eating is the last stages of cancer. It wasn't easy, for the agony of not wanting to see her go to heaven but didn't want her to suffer is so sad and is the most agonizing experience I went through ever. It's so sad, when it is happening and you don't get over it quickly either. Prayers helps a lot for me. I'm at the point where I no longer look longing at the door hoping she'll come home. It's not easy loosing someone. I found out too, that she needed to let me know many things before she left Earth. At first I said it won't happen soon, but as time passed I let her tell me what she wanted to tell me. It was very important to know what she told me as she was still lucid. When it comes to the last week, she wasn't able to speak at all. So it's important to listen to your Aunt when she wants to speak to you for towards the end, she might not be able to speak and tell you what she wants and needs to tell you. Do as you feel fit, but this is what I went through and if it helps I'm glad...take care and God help you and your family, amen.

So bad news for your cousin's mom. I hope he is strong enough to deal with that, and enjoy the time with his mom as much as he can. On the other hand I am happy that you had a time to reconnect with people you hadn't been in touched for a little while.
