Her Gift to Me

For My Wonderful Mother, this Mothers Day, and for the Nonna who went home to be with the Lord in November 0f 03 Her gift to me Was all the bandaged kness All the lovingly prepared meals And the special treats The dolls that I just had to have And the gentle words Of encouragement. My gift to her Is the daughter, the granddaughter I have become Learning to lean on the Lord As they did. It is the Mother and Daughter days Where just she and I go out to eat And shop for a new pair jeans. My gift to her is the granddaughter Who loves the written word Knows how to get on her knees and pray When the hours sing the darkest I learned to let that light to shine through Bright and beautiful. Her gift to me Was the lessons learned And the trips we take as a family Being able to talk like a Mother and Daughter should. Her gift to me Was the love of learning And the Italian heritage Learning to read And write the words That our ancestors spoke. My gift to her Is the passion That burns within And the zest for life A gift from both of them. Copyright Michelle R Kidwell May.09.09 5:07 P.M PST
