Writers And Readers Website Review Goodreads

The Goodreads website has existed since 2006, losing its independence in a merger with Amazon in 2013.
Goodreads allows readers to share reviews and ratings and discussions of their favourite books and current reading. Goodreads then adds lists of similar titles the readers might appreciate too.
The site is a great platform for new writers to promote their books and allows interaction with networks of friends and fans just like Facebook.
The Amazon take-over means there is a bias towards new books and titles sold on Amazon, but retro reviews are still possible and generally, Goodreads is very good.
The ratings system can be weal, as you can rate books without bothering to read them so many great titles can end up with low scores, but overall it is a great site for browsing and promoting your writing. I have found a few Mylot friends on there too.

@arthurchappell That's about the best we can hope for when it comes to giant companies like Amazon.

@xander6464 I do use them from time to time as some books are only attainable there but I hate myself for using them at all

I often use Goodreads. I haven't written any reviews, but it is a good way to find new books.

@arthurchappell Yes, I have found many books there. I often use the lists. It is good way to find other books about the same topics/other books from the same genre.

I have been a member of Goodread for sometime. I love that new authors can share their work there.

I was a member of Goodreads before they merged with Amazon, and still use them on an almost daily basis!

For one of my poetry books I've gotten very low ratings with no reviews to back the ratings up. I don't think these low raters even read my book. It is not fair when people can just rate books without actually having read them. But there is no way to check if someone read the book before accepting a rating for it. Only way maybe would be if they had bought it on Amazon but many people read books from the library so how would you keep track of that?

sorry your poetry work got a raw deal there - very annoying - hopefully your work will still attract readers too
