What was under that flooded bridge

The flood waters receded quickly from the picture I posted on the day I stayed home. As many people have told me, dead trees get washed into the river during a heavy storm. They pack up together and form a blockage that causes flooding. This is the same bridge as was in my discussion "I am Staying Home Today". You can see all the uprooted trees and such that have piled up underneath the bridge. I guess men from the town will drag them out as soon as it is dry enough to do so. I took this picture yesterday, when we went out driving around.

The town is lucky that the bridge didn't wash out from all that debris piling up and blocking the flow of the river. The force of moving water is nothing to reckon with!

House by the river
I did not take pictures of the railroad bridge that is on south of here. The custom is to take old train engines and put on the railroad bridge when the water is rising to keep it from washing away. The bridge seems to hold steady, but if it were to wash out there are other ways to access the nearby paved highways and work around to get back into town. This is the first house east of the bridge. I was told the water came to the base of the porch.

@moffittjc Yes, but once they got part of the way clear and the rain stopped it went down quickly.

That sometimes happens around here too. Hope they can clean it soon.

Dam! (Not an expletive, that's what it is....a dam!) No wonder the water backed up.

I have seen the rath that floods can cause on an area. I hope that there is no structural damage to the bridge.

We drove over it, it seemed fine. There are roads around that have been torn up and will have to be replaced.

It's astonishing how powerful water can be, isn't it?A lot of heavy material like that could even take out the bridge!

If it was coming down the river fast enough I am sure the force could damage the bridge.

This used to happen when I lived in another small town. Sometimes the beavers will stop up the pipes and flood the roads here.

Yes, beavers will cause flooding around here as well.
