Sounds weird but it's fact. That black trivial activated charcoal is my favourite remedy for whitening teeth. Thanks to its slightly abrasive texture and ability to pull out toxins and harmful bacteria activated charcoal can remove even the most stubborn stains from your teeth. The key is dedication. Don't imagine that you achieve brilliant smile after first use. But keep it as your regular regimen say 2-3times a week and your efforts will be awarded. The way I do it. Every other evening while taking shower I dip my toothbrush in charcoal powder, do my brushing for few mins and without rinsing brush my teeth with my regular toothpaste. Keep in mind, charcoal can stain your sink or shower tiles, so be ready to clean the mess afterwards. For extra fresh feeling and whitening effect add to your charcoal powder few drops of mint, tea trea or lemon oil to your choice. Have a marvelous Monday and happy bright smile!

My dentist told me to stay away, or to use only once in a while (surely not 3 times a week). Charcoal is abrasive, the teeth look whiter because charcoal corrodes the top.

Well my dentist reccomended this remedy explaining that charcoal is much more safe for enamel than baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and other bleaching agents.

@Julie555 In effect baking soda is very, very bad. I use no bleaching agents, peroxide is even dangerous.

But still if you are cautious to use this remedy, maybe because your teeth are sensitive then indeed better to listen to the professional

Are you sure it won't spoil the tooth enamel?

I use this remedy during last five month every alternate evening. I haven't seen any enamel damage.charcoal powder which I use is very fine and far less abrasive than baking soda which can definitely damage tooth enamel

I just read an article saying it might hurt your teeth...but I have to wonder if it’s any more damaging than bleaching them.

I never had any hurting experience with charcoal powder, it is not that abrasive or acidic as other commercial bleaching products. Those can really mess up enamel sensitivity
